Corrosion-resistant castle nuts, also known as castellated nuts, in a variety of diameters at competitive prices. Hexagonal nuts with castle-like sections on one side. Used with a split or cotter pin, which passes through the castle like notches on the nut and into a drilled hole within the bolt. This fixes the nut to the bolt which is designed to ensure the bolt stays attached.

What is a castle nut?

Castle nuts, also known as castellated nuts are an hexagonal nut with castle like sections on one side. These look like the battlements of a castle, hence the name of castle nut. The nuts are used with a split or cotter pin and a bolt that has a pre-drilled hole. The nut is attached and the pin is passed through the castle like notches into the hole within the bolt, this in turn prevents the nut from turning.

What are castle nuts used for?

Castel nuts are known as a positive locking device which are used to help ensure that the nut remains fixed in place and resists vibrations. They are found in cars and axles that hold bearing and wheels in place. A formidable locking mechanism that can withstand a lot of vibration and movement, hence their use in vehicles, trains and bikes of all types.
